Shadow Play

Playing with Shadows
in the Afternoon Eureka Sun

C'mon, Joe.
Let's take a walk now so that
we can dance with our shadows.

We can play with our reflections, too, Ruby.
Can you see me in the window?

This late afternoon sun feels good.
I don't need a shirt now.

I feel as if I am being followed, Joe.
Is anyone behind me?

Just do as I do and
let your reflection be your guide, Ruby.

Joe, I love shadow play.
I hope our fun never ends.

I do too, Ruby.
I want it to last forever.

In Eureka, there won't be that many days when you cast a shadow. But the sunny days are exquisite.

That's a good thing, Kym. One of the reasons I left Los Angeles was to escape from the unrelenting sun. I just couldn't take anymore of that sun and heat and Ruby didn't like it either.

Strangely, though, we could never cast shadows there like we can here. Humboldt County has some magic to it.
